Blood glucose monitors

If you are self funding then we recommend the BG meters with the cheapest test strips which are the SD Gluco Navii (previously the SD Codefree) or the Spirit Health TEE2 Blood Glucose Monitor..... test strips for them are £8 for a pot of 50 as oppose to £15-£25 for some other models. A pot of 50 may seem like a lot but when you are testing before and 2 hours after food for everything you eat in the initial few weeks and months, you sharp get through a good few pots. They are the simplest meters on the market for basic BG monitoring. ie No fancy bells and whistles.... just put a strip in the meter, prick your finger, touch the end of the strip to the drop of blood and wait until it counts down to a reading. There are you tube videos which show you how to use them if you are not confident of following written instructions or have problems.

If you sign up on the Spirit Healthcare site, pause and await an email to confirm you are diagnosed diabetic and you can then order free of VAT.

I am wondering if anyone has experience of the new SD Gluco Navii. I used an SD Code Free for a while, but some of the results it gave appeared to be a bit..."funky". I do have an Accu chek Mobile which my wife bought me, it seems to be pretty good, but, boy, it is expensive to run!. I would also be interested if anyone has any experience of the TEE2 - I read somewhere it was one of the meters some NHS trusts recommended.

The SD Codefree was fine for me. But if ever in doubt, double-check it's veracity with the test solution.
