Hi Yvonne

Have you started treatment? Have you been given any advice about diet and activity? It will take a while for any changes to take effect, and it may also take a while for you and your medical team to find the right course of treatment - not just medication.

Hi Yvonne, welcome to the forum! As the others have suggested, it may take a little while before your levels start to come down. The main thing is that now you have been diagnosed then you can begin to work towards improving your diet and maybe take up regular exercise if that's not something you do already. Learning about the best foods to eat and how they affect you can take some time - I think most of us learn something new every day! - but you will get there, and hopefully it will greatly improve your quality of life as many others have found. Try to stay positive, and let us know how you get on. There are bound to be many questions, so don't be afraid to ask. Might be worth taking a look at the recommended books section to learn more about the condition, plus Diabetes UK's website has lots of information on diet etc.:

I agree with all of above, do you have a meter to test with? See if you can get one as it is a huge help.

There is lots of advice on this forum and lots of information with Diabetes UK. You might also like to go to the library and see what books they have on the subject too.

Welcome to the forum, ive dropped carbs as much as poss, this seems to do the trick for me!

Well done there Julie , I agree on the Carb issue , I restrict Carbs , works for me too 🙂

i just eat a sensible diet and restrict nothing. this seems to work fine for me, but others find carbs make levels go mad. it is all about trial and error really but welcome to the forum and dont be afraid to ask anything 🙂

As others have said - it does take time to learn what affects you. Like many I find carbohydrates somewhat pesky little blighters as they hide away in so much that I like - including things like curry powder. However, one of the best things for me alongside managing the diet has been building up the exercise as that seems to help the insulin resistance
