I had an appointment yesterday. Went better then expected. I have pump to play with and a manuall the size of a small country to read.

However, I was told that for pregnancy I needed to be between 3.9 and 5.5 before lunch, and no higher then 7.9 after a meal. Which I can see that it is best for child bearing ect.
However, I drive alot. And I was told that DVLA guidlines go out the window when getting levels for pregnancy.

My question is What is the DVLA guidline for driving? I can't remember if it is advised to be no lower then 5.2 or 5.5

The guideline is if you are below 5 you should have a snack, and if you are below 4 you must treat the hypo and then once back above 4 you must wait at least 45 minutes until driving.

I would think of calling or writing to the drivers medical group and asking their advice, just in case what you have been told is inaccurate.

At least the appointment was better than you thought it would be.

I'm glad your appointment went better than you thought it would. Good luck with everything, I hope it all works out for you.

Sounds positive akasha. Hope the practice pump works out for you.🙂

I would suggest that the DVLA rules come first in everything. You'll need to compromise on your premeal BGs to meet their criteria, which is possible but tricky. If you aim to stay above 5 and maybe raise the threshold to 6 or so.

The new rules have thrown a spanner in a lot of people's works and I suspect they'll be realxing it slightly here and there to allow for more practicality. But the advice for BGs before driving is sensible and, for now, shoudl always be followed.🙂
