Hello
I am so glad I have found this site as everyone has already been so kind and helpful.
I have been reading about testing before and after eating which I have been doing. Not sure what to do about the numbers though!
Tonight I had homemade bolognese and pasta. A total of 30g of carbs. Before eating I was 6.7 and 2 hours later was 9.3. This was the first time I have tested below 8 so was a bit chuffed but now it is above again. What do I do about this? Does it mean I shouldn't eat the pasta?

Thank you
Caroline

That is definitely borderline on being too much of an increase. You could reduce the portion of pasta or use a low carb pasta made from edamame beans or black beans or just have more veg, courgette or shredded cabbage.

I love pasta but think I will give it a miss for a while.
I will look for some low carb pasta but I really draw the line at cabbage!! It is bad enough be8ng diabetic but there is no way I am eating cabbage or cauliflower!!lol
Seriously thanks for the advice.
I am sure I will get my head round all this soon.

Forget the cabbage boiled to death and shred it finely with some spring onions and cook minimally with a knob of butter. Cauliflower cheese a great low carb option.

Hi Caroline1967, glad you found us!

I draw the line at cauliflower too :D but I do love Caribbean style cabbage which has onions, peppers, carrots and some seasoning added, delish! Worth having a play around with the things that you do like and building a meal plan out of that.

Your numbers do seem to have jumped a bit more than would be desirable but that might just mean that you need to reduce the amount of pasta and maybe add some veg into the mix.

We've got some helpful info on the bottom of the page below re understanding your numbers that may be helpful so do have a look when you get a min. https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing

Next time around see what the effect is of halving the quantity of pasta and upping the amount of sauce. Sort of bolognaise spaghetti rather than spaghetti bolognaise. I put it in a bowl rather than on a plate, the smaller portion of spaghetti looks to be a perfectly normal portion.

Worked for me, your meter will tell you if it works for you.
