A LOCAL hosiery worker by day is set to perform a vital service for the NHS by night, as he prepares to become the region?s first Blood Biker.
Hawick man Steven Quintus is the driving the force behind a bid to provide a free motorcycle courier service through the night for hospitals ? with plans for a bike to be based in Hawick.
Blood Bikes have existed in Britain since 1969, with groups of motorcyclists volunteering to deliver urgently-needed blood and supplies to hospitals between 7pm and 6am ? but such a service has never taken off in Scotland. And Mr Quintus is on the brink of launching Blood Bikes for the Borders.
