Hi friends,

i went to a party last night and enjoyed a good dance, unknowingly i have a big blister on the outer side of my big toe, , i would say its bigger than the ned of a pencil, now when i went to the nurse when dx in may, she said something about needing to see the GP when i have blisters on my feet etc, surely this doesnt class as that??
i intend to leave it alone and hopefully it will disapear on its own,

am i doing the right thing? its seems such a trivial thing..

many thanx xxx

I would keep it clean and keep an eye on it - the main thing to avoid is an infection. Savlon do some excellent blister plasters (I know this as a runner for 30 years!) so you might want to have a look in the pharmacy for some 🙂

If it does seem to be getting worse or not healing then get it checked out by the nurse or GP 🙂

Hard to say without seeing it but your feet are more prone to infection due to possible neuropathy and poor circulation.

I've had a blister infected decades ago but my feet have been ok since.

If you don't want to bother your GP, inspect it morning and night, try to avoid any more dancing until it's healed and straight to the GP if it starts to itch or looks a bit manky (or smells of fish, etc 😱).🙂

It may not depending on how it looks..

If it looks like a normal healthy blister, no redness, just clear liquid under the skin, then don't need to go off to GP

BUT

You do need to keep a very close eye on it, if your control isn't great or the blister even hints at it might start to go iffy, then down to your surgery to have it checked out..

It's not so much the actual size of the blister as tiny one can cause as much striff as a large blister for the diabetic, if it decides to become infected..

My son (T1 and lymphoedema in his legs, so double whammy) got a blister on holiday, on top of his big toe. We were in the middle of nowhere in the Dolomites (lovely though!!) so I was a bit panicky, especially as it had burst. We used an antiseptic spray (something like Savlon) and Fucidin (antibiotic cream) and Compeed during the day. At night we used the spray and cream plus a sterile gauze dressing to let it breathe a bit. Everything was fine, no infection thank goodness. Hopefully you will be fine. As others have said, keep an eye on it and if you think the sore area is getting worse or spreading go to the doc.

thanks everyone.

i would have never thought twice about a blister before!!, i will be wearing thong sandels so nothing is touching the blister, and keep a good eye on it, its a little red and sore but nothing to cause worry at the moment, like you all say if it goes funny then off to the GPs!!
thanx again everyone xxx

Be really careful and watch out for any signs of infection my son came back from hols with an infected blister and needed anti-biotics and hes not diabetic .

I don't know if you go to a podiatrist but mine told me to just go to see her, no appointment ( hospital clinic) if I had any cut or damage to my foot that was worrying me. I find this very reassuring... Maybe yours , if you have one, would do the same.

Just keep looking at your feet... I suggest in private though or people may wonder 😱

🙂

no i dont see a podiatrist, but will check my feet all the time and hubby will check them too lol....i hate feet lol xx
