Republican Senator John Thune accepted the invitation of Lauren Dooley–Sartin to learn about diabetes.
The Black Hawk Elementary fourth grader has had type–1 diabetes since the age of four.
Tuesday, she presented Senator Thune with a blue “Diabetes Awareness Month” pin.
She launched a campaign to raise awareness by contacting many of South Dakota's top politicians including Governor Dennis Daugaard, Representative Kristi Noem and Senator Tim Johnson.
