Type 2
hi all. I'm struggling here. My waking levels are consistently in the teens, other levels are in teens, the lowest having been in 11's and not often. Nurse is repeating bloods in April as I have been off track with diet, and exercise is not in my daily routine. I've not been too well with virus, sciatica, working hard and a bit stressed, and not eating well. Really all in all, worried, miserable and in a huge hole that I am pretending I am getting out of. I feel as if I have gone right back almost to where I stared.
Getting the hungries and at work go searching for a biscuit but don't buy any for at home
Also, which is new for me, I am forgetting evening tablets often once a week
I lost a lot of weight before diagnosis and have put on half stone, but lost it again slowly so my weight is not a concern

I know I need a plan and some help and here's some of my thoughts.

-Colleague has diabetes as well, and we are looking for a referral for exercise group that is for folks with health probs(I will be more likely to go with someone else)
- go back to xpert book and make a plan for food and keep an honest food record
-cook and make packed lunch
-stop sleeping in front of tv
-try to be more grateful for the health I have
-fill up with veg as I'm not eating enough of right things

Sorry for my moans and thanks for any suggestions and not sure if this is where I should have posted this

Of course you should post this here Carol, it's the ideal place because people understand. I've been aware of your struggles lately and feel for you. The virus, cold weather, sciatica and just feeling run down has derailed you but it looks like you're working out a strategy for yourself and that's great.

I've had to rein myself in this past two weeks because I'd become too permissive with myself particularly after evening meals. It's really hard and it's unrelenting.

Being tired and possibly in pain takes away the motivation and energy to plan so the first tasty morsel that will fit in the mitt as we get home is quickly devoured. Hell we've all been there! Hard to exercise with sciatica too. I was lucky if I could get my knickers on and get dressed!

Your plans look good and we'll do what we can to support you. No judgements or daft advice because you don't need it. Sending best wishes, x

Hi Carol. Your illnesses will not have helped keep your BG low and lack of time to think and act on diet haven't helped either.
However if you can stick to your plan, and it's an excellent one, I'm sure you'll soon start to see an improvement. Keeping busy and active will help reduce your hunger symptoms - the hungry feeling is caused by the grehlin hormone triggered by an empty stomach acting on the hypothalamus which sends the "I'm hungry," message. But other parts of the brain can overide the message when you are busy.
Good luck. Stick to your plan!

-post your progress and thoughts on here regularly, so we can congratulate you (or deliver a motivational speech, which always wants to make me throw something at the orator) or help you fine tune your plans. Many heads are better than one.

That sounds like a good, positive plan Carol 🙂 Teaming up with a colleague will mean you can share the tough times together and give mutual support. Perhaps you could think of some sort of goal to work towards 🙂 I think the food record is very important - knowing exactly what you are eating and drinking, and not just vaguely trying to remember it later gives you an opportunity to really take a close look at things and work out where you can make improvements - smaller portions of this, bigger portions of that, ditch this, only have this as a treat, replace this with something equally as tasty, but less impact on BG levels - it all becomes much easier when you have it all laid out in front of you 🙂 Making your own meals will also help you to make better choices about ingredients that are most suitable for you instead of 'taking the hit' for things just because they are more convenient. Make sure you allow yourself a proper amount of time to do this - it's right up there on your list of priorities to get things under good control 🙂

We are right here whenever you need a helping hand, so please don't feel that you are moaning - unless you want to moan, and that's fine too, we love a good moan! 🙂 Good luck! 🙂

Carol I so understand how you've been feeling. I think most of us do so you've done absolutely the right thing by sharing it with us and also by making an excellent plan to try to improve things. Let us know how you are doing because we all care and can cheer you on when you do well and listen when it's tough. Best of luck! 🙂

Thanks amigo, I know you have your own struggles.so thanks for those kind words.taking pain killers don't help the rest of me, and not taking them doesn't help either. Writing the post made me more realistic that I need to get a grip and how miserable I was feeling, and thanks northerner for your suggestion to put up a separate post. Take care amigo, n get those knickers on. Lol

Thanks Dave. I've slipped back into the larger lunch mode at work again, so that's another thing to address. It's usually when I have a long period between breakfast n lunch, but certainly can appreciate the I'm hungry message

Thanks robin. I live alone so sometimes just knowing there are other people out there that know what's going on is a great comfort. My son has been diagnosed with type 2 at Xmas and has needed a lot of support and we had a wee chat tonight along with A few tears

There's nowt wrong with having a larger lunch, but you have to think about what you have in it. 🙄

I am not eating properly, hardly any veggies, and although small portions, not a balanced diet. Been so tired, but not eating right will make it worse.i actually went to knitting club, and walked. It only takes 5 mins but usually go by car because it's dark-wimp that I am. Arranged to meet up after holiday to walk with one of the members with her dog, as long as she does pooh patrol peuck.

Didn't realise you are another Scottish person

There's nowt wrong with having a larger lunch, but you have to think about what you have in it. 🙄
Meant later lunch. When I went back to work, I said I would have lunch around 1230 but have sneaked up to around 1330 or later. I was really good for a while

Thanks for this. Hope I can help others as well

Ahh. I made a wrong assumption . My mum was the same, never totally lost her accent though.

Well here it is, Friday and day 1 of plan. BG 15.6 and counted carbs and getting a new wee untainted notebook today. Will be cooking at work today so not stressing that I won't get a lot else done and will be able to boil eggs to make soft eggs mashed in a cup while I'm doing everything else, along with fruit and natural yogurt- in another bowl- it's a plan. Got some Brazil nuts in a box for on my desk if I get the nibbles and want to go on a biscuit hunt.
Exercise- I will see, finish at 1530 so might go a bit of a walk down to beach and clear my head. Then going through kitchen cupboard and putting foods in myfitnesspal to keep more accurate track from next week.
Have a good day everyone

Sounds a brilliant plan! Ending you work day with a walk down to the sea sounds great and I always find walks in nature help the feel good factor. I can feel your determination and wish you a successful day.
