Hi all

trying to keep on track after dropping hbac1 70 in jan to 36 in March.

Bloods seem ok after eating like 5.5 to 6.2.
However my fasting is often 5.8 to low 6s I’m eating more or less same is this tipping me into pre diabetic range?

even wen I got to hbsc1 36 my waking ones were never super low but I want to take action any tips/advice here ?
Thanks Paul

Totally normal BG if you haven't got diabetes is between 4 and 7.8 so your fasting BG is normal. Why would you want a fasting BG to be anything other than just a little tad higher than it was when you were still asleep?

The body automatically shoves some glycogen from its stores in the liver into the bloodstream just before you wake, in order to fuel the body to go forth and hunt, gather or whatever it needs to do. It's an inborn primeval human instinct, part of the design of a human being, so I think you and I might have a bit of a prob trying to negate it !

I'm not sure I understand your comment about "pre-diabetic range".

There's no action to take here. Your blood readings are fine. All of your readings are pretty the same within the tolerance of your machine and your long term average is also fine going by your last HbA1c result.

ok cool sorry i thought i read somewhere that over 5.8 waking after fast was not ideal but thanks for the info i sghall carry on as i am

No problem. Not sure where you read that information from but your numbers seem very good to me and although you can't translate directly from blood glucose to HbA1c, your numbers are at least indicative of well controlled diabetes so that's very good news.

It's a good number, and a good hba1c.
I'm guessing you low carb maybe?

yeh i eat about 75 g a day now about 25 g with each meal.

kinda eat the same stuff mostly should experiment more.

i did a self imposed 1000 low carb circa 60 g cals a day diet for 8 weeks before and lost 15 kg in 12 weeks and dropped hbac1 70 to 36 in 3 months.

I wan to keep it down so hard bit begins now eeek.

I agree with what has been said above that your readings are fine and well done on reducing your HbA1c and weight so impressively.
The only thing i wanted to add which may explain a slight increase in your waking levels if your diet has not changed, is that the Covid vaccine, if you have had it, has had an impact on BG levels for many people. Some were just short term over a few days and others like myself and @Martin.A had problems for several weeks. I believe Martin was getting mostly 5s for his waking readings since he got his diabetes under control and then had consistent 6s for about 6 weeks after the vaccine but has just dropped back into the high 5s the last week or two. Hope I got that right but it may put your mind at rest if this very minimal issue you have noticed started shortly after you got the vaccine.

very interesting and there may be a correlation.

I did get my second astra vaccine abit more than two weeks ago so there may be slight reasoning here.

Anyhow im happy enuf once numbers keep below diabetic ill keep eye on it.

Its all very fluxy but ill keep a proactive eye on it all and thanks for all your advice/

Congratulations on your great progress so far @D2PAUL

You should feel very proud of yourself 🙂
