I haven't done hardly anything today prior to 8am all I did was get out of bed and sit on the settee and since then I've put on the dishwasher and put out the recycling yet my BGs are still going down much more than I would expect -

6.30am 5.0 (which was happy with)
7.45am down to 3.8 - 3 jelly babies
8.45am 6.5 (good after the jelly babies
9.45 - down to 5.0

other drops during the last few days have been occurring up at 6am, midday, mid afternoon, 5pm etc - I haven't lost weight - I've actually put on 2 kilos in the last week eating to keep my blood glucose up. I've cut back basals and correction doses - I don't understand - sorry if this sounds like a repeat from yesterday's post but for the past few days I have also felt sooooooooooooooo tired and had these headaches and have generally felt yucky and I haven't been doing hardly anything.

there seem to be a lot of viruses doing the rounds but that normally sends numbers up.

I hope you feel better soon and get things sorted. Did yu say you had an appointment withthe DSN? Hope that sheds some light on things.

Thanks Caroline. I've got an appointment with the nurse at the hospital tomorrow. I'm hoping that she will have some suggestions to help. To be completely honest my long-time diabetic best friend suggested that it might be Addisons and that was also my fear before she suggested it. I'm just hoping that we are both wrong but will discuss the possibility with the nurse tomorrow.

I hope you are wrong, the main thing is it is being investigated and you are getting help.

May also be the climb down after all your worries with Susie, I know you were very worried about her.

Hopefully you're right Caroline because I was very worried about Susie. I can't believe how happy she is now, she's also using her legs more and we've found her happily sleeping on the sofa for several mornings, she had stopped doing that six months ago when she first became ill.

Blip

Morning AJ

Sorry to hear that your levels are making you feel unwell at the moment. This happens to me every now and again too and I can't fathom it. I have blips when I can't get my blood glucose level down even with corrective doses and then times when it keeps going low.

After doing some intensive patient courses with the diabetes team here in Portsmouth, I have learned to look at all sorts of factors to build up a bigger picture, what I had to eat yesterday, have I carb-counted properly, is my insulin working properly, what activity have I been doing, does my basal need adjusting, is it the dawn effect, have I been doing anything else out of my routine etc, etc. But, you are a fellow person with diabetes and I don't need to tell you that, so please don't think I am telling you how to suck eggs 🙂

It sounds like you are feeding your insulin too, and we know that extra weight gain can force your insulin to work harder. When that has happened to me in the past, my consultant changed my bolus and recalculated my doses with me, which worked really well and evened out my levels.

I think you are doing the right thing by seeking expert advice. I think that;s what I would do. Dr Jones, Lisa and the team are great in Hartlepool. Good luck and I hope they can get you sorted out. Let us know how you get on.

Lee 🙂

Hi Lee

Thanks very much for what you've said and sharing this with me. I think that I'm worried because I have done everything that you've suggested. It's only been the last week to ten days that I've had to feed the insulin - normally, since being on the pump my BGs are very stable and if there has been a problem I've analysed it and changed the appropriate insulin or identified the problem. Since being on the pump my average BG has been fairly static around 7.8 but the for last seven days the average is 6.8 and that's with eating quite a lot of extra carbs to keep my BGs up.

I am sorry you are still having these problems Amanda, it's exhausting and draining. Best of luck with the appt tomorrow.xx

Thank you Karen xx Sorry I'm not on FB much at the moment but not really in the mood with all this going on

Hi AJ

I completely understand. When you lose control of your levels its really worrying and makes you question yourself and whether you are doing something wrong. I bet we all do it.

I'm not on a pump, but imagine that's another challenge for you at times like this. Do you think your pump could have a fault and be delivering a larger dose of insulin that it should? I know they have built in diagnostics and alarms, but do you think that could be happening?

Lee

Hi Lee

Thanks for this. I had only vaguely thought about the pump having a fault but thought that it would "tell" me if it was. However I'm glad that you suggested it because I can ask the nurse tomorrow, thank you.
