So stressed out as to what on earth is going wrong?
- as you can see from below I've been reducing my BI/lantus over the last few weeks to try and get the bedtime & fasting BGs so there is not much difference in mmols but now all my BGs are into the teens. What to do next? Any suggestions please?

lantus decreases:
Tue 29.10 from 24u to 22u
Sat 02.10 from 22u to 20u
Tue 6.11 from 20u to 18u
Wed 20.11 from 18u to 16u
Wed 27.11 from 16u to 14u

So were you madly hypo before? and none of this did the trick?

Hi,

If you feel your basal is now correct would it not be time to work on your bolus ratios and correction doses? 🙂

If your bedtime and waking levels are more stable now Gill (I seem to remember you were dropping a LOT overnight before) I agree with Hanmillmum - it's probably time to check/change your insulin:carb ratio(s) and correction factor(s).

If you *had* been running with waaay too much basal before then these could well have been too low.

Getting basal right first is the bedrock. So you are heading in the right direction I think!

Hi Gill, as a matter of interest are you still snacking without bolusing?

Hi all & thanks for the replies

I'm really at a complete loss

Yes that's correct I was dropping a LOT overnight before & now bedtime & waking levels seem to be more stable now.
I will maybe now concentrate on altering the mealtime insulin:carb ratios because like you say they could possibly be on the low side.

If I have supper it's always after my bedtime test & no I don't take QA. I just don't seem to have the confidence to take QA at bedtime 😱

Well Gill you have 2 choices either bolus or don't eat any carbs.
Your main problem is snacking without taking the insulin needed to cover it.

Hi Sue,
I bolused last night for supper

14.9 - 22:37pm - bedtime
- had corned beef sandwich 2 slices = 30g carbs, had 3u QA - a first time ever for me I think before bed but......then had 2 rich tea biscuits 11.2g carbs
6.9 - 10:38am - fasting

lantus decreases:
Tue 29.10 from 24u to 22u
Sat 02.10 from 22u to 20u

Wed 20.11 from 18u to 16u
Wed 27.11 from 16u to 14u

Have just spoken with my DSN who I know from the drop-in & also who works at the hospital
- read out all BGs from Monday
- in between all the highs (ie in the teens) the last couple of days I've had hypos so she suggested reducing the lantus from 14u to 12u to try & stop the hypos then to go and see her at the drop in clinic which won't be until next Thursday

Thats still a big drop overnight. Your bedtime reading is very high which suggests that your evening bolus is incorrect. Your basal still doesn't seem right and neither does your boluses, time to start from scratch!
