I did my BG this morning and it was 6.7 which was the same as last night so I thought I would do it again it then changed to 8.9 so I did it for a third time and it was 7.7, I used it 3 times from the same finger prick, do you think it could be that my monitor is rubbish?it’s a sinocare

That's probably within the tolerances of the meter. And a daily fingerprick test isn't really about the actual number but it's more about the trend and the increases post eating than anything else.

If I was concerned a reading was far out of kilter I'd not test the same site. I'd use a fresh needle and draw from a different finger.

As @ColinUK says there is a margin of error in all readings. Looking at your three I would say you are somewhere in the mid 7s

Also sometimes in the morning if I have a reading that's higher than expected I'll also sometimes take another test 45 mins or so after and then same again if necessary.
But really I'd not fuss too much if a morning reading matched an evening one from the night before. I actually quite enjoy that symmetry!

Its the nature of testing. Just because your meter gives a reading with a decimal point does not mean that any test result will be reproducible to a decimal point. It won't.

I did 10 consecutive tests the other day - reported in another thread. The conclusion I came to was that a more realistic way of looking at blood glucose results was to round to the nearest whole number (for your results that would give 7, 9 and 8) and not to react to anything that was less than one unit different to what you might expect. For me, your results are within test error.

So your waking BG seems to be around 8 which some would consider a bit high so maybe its worth you thinking about how you might get it down so you were getting 5's, 6's and 7's.

Different meters do seem to use different amounts of the allowable variation @WendyB61

This table shows the amount of variation that is legally permitted, which you can see does give quite a wide range - especially once you get above mid-range 🙂

Members here have found the SD Gluco Navii and Spirit Tee2 (which both have affordable strips at approx £8 per pot) seem to give fairly reliable and repeatable results - though all meters will have variation from strip to strip
