BG Meter....Can anyone recommend please?

Hi,

I have had lots of people advising I get a BG meter but I am unsure which to get, where to buy from and what I need to buy to go along side it.

If anyone could recommend please I would really appreciate it..

Hi. Sadly Most on here have to self fund their own meters unless they are on meds that can cause hypo’s.
It’s the ongoing cost of the testing strips you have to watch out for esp as initially you need to test just before eating then two hours later.
The Gluco navii meter and it’s Gluco navii test strips
Is one of the more affordable meters to self fund , it’s the updated version of the SD codrefree you will often see mentioned on here , it’s test strips cost around £8 for a pot of 50 where high street brands cost £15 to £25 for 50. all meters sold in the U.K. have to comply to certain standards .

In the U.K. we use the mmol/l measurement and you are entitled to claim VAT relief.
You will also need to buy more lancets, test strips as they only provide 10 in starter packs
 
I use a Spirit Healthcare Tee 2 meter which is provided by my GP as I inject with insulin
It's straightforward enough to use; Search for it on t'Net

The cost of the testing strips are cheap, which is why it is recommended on this forum, and by East Lancashire Health Authority
When you buy any meter you only get about 10 strips with it, so get a larger packet or two at the same time

Have you used a meter before?
Search YouTube for 'finger prick test' and 'Tee 2 glucose meter' to see how to use them

Most meters now have a built in memory, or you can connect them to a computer, or just write the results in a notebook

Thank you again for all your replies. I ordered a Tee2+ from Spirit Health as this seemed really reasonable, price wise. Is it really weird to say I am excited to use it 🙄 I have done well with eating better and have lost 12lb in 2 weeks but I really want to know if the food I am eating is right. X
 
I got my SD Code Free and strips from Amazon. The meter came with a few lancets, and a lancing device. I've not needed any more lancets yet.
Get at least 1 pot of 10 strips. 2 or 3 would be better.

Hopefully home testing will really help you see how different food and activity impacts on your bgl - look forward to hearing how you get on.

Thank you. I am over the moon 🙂 its been years and years since I have stuck to something long enough to loose more than just a few pounds and the best thing is, for the first time ever, im not on an actual diet, just being sensible, cutting the sugar out and eating less carbs. But I also want to make sure, while I'm loosing the weight that I am taking care of my blood sugars too. Learning more about it all daily and this forum and the lovely people on it are all helping so much x
