Hi everyone ...just wondering if anxiety can affect your levels as mine have been okay until the last few days and I've been sticking to my usual diet etc but my readings are much higher than normal .. I have had a recall on a breast scan so that's obviously on my mind could that explain the levels changing Thanks Jill

Put simply, yes, anxiety & stress can affect our levels.

To be honest, Jill, anything can; my BG will tell me if I'm coming down something a few days before I notice symptoms.....

Oh yes, we are due to fly to Malta on Thursday and I have to check in on line, some thing I haven't done before so my waking level in in the high 8s rather than the low 7s it is normally.
Later in the day it goes back to what is normal for me.

Hi Jill - yes, anxiety and stress can raise levels due to the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline being released into your blood stream. These hormones cause your liver to release extra glucose into the blood to (theoretically) give you a boost of energy to deal with whatever the 'threat' is. Unfortunately, when you have diabetes, your body can't cope particularly well with the extra glucose so your levels go up.

I hope that you have a good outcome from the recall, so you can relax again 🙂
