Hi all, so tonight James did finger prick and got a 3.8! That’s after evening meal of sausage casserole. He tests about once a week at random times and often low 4s in mornings after breakfast and usually 6 something after evening meal. His Hba1c was 36 in November, down from 64 in September when diagnosed. DN still advised to stay on 4 x metformin which I thought maybe bit high? So rang GP who said it wasn’t even on his file that he was in remission and she didn’t think metformin would be doing much at those levels. He’s been eating low carb for 4 months and now lost 4st, i asked for further Hba1c test which was done last week so awaiting results .. but worried that he’s still losing weight and his BG seems bit low? Anyone else lost this much on low carb and high metformin dose? Wondering if safe to half his metformin from tomorrow until we can get GP appointment? any thoughts welcome, thanks

I hope you gave some fast acting glucose for the 3.8. Just 15g would be plenty to push him back into safe territory. Did he feel a bit spaced out and shaky? Or was it asymptomatic?

I have seen several CGM traces by interested Drs and non-Ds which show that ‘regular’ people can stray down below 4 every so often, it usually not by much and not for long.

But yes, it does seem like his BG has been low/normal for a while now, and I wonder if he does still need those meds?

Hi thanks for replying Mike: he felt absolutely fine no symptoms at all, so I gave him some biscuits and a cappuccino, we wouldn’t have known if he didn’t decide to check tonight. His DN and GP both advise not to test but as he was started on gliclazide he got given one. He has autism so hard to tell if he’s feeling strange but he looks just fine and is now enjoying a few twig keys too... hopefully we can lower his meds as he has really done very well and his health is massively improved with his new lifestyle... thank you for replying and hope all good with you

Twiglets ... ha predictive text! Am sure twigs and keys are low carb but not good for hypo 😉

Twigs and Keys sounds like the name of some music combo beloved of the Youth of today 🙂

Hi @ColinUK hope you are getting on ok? 😉

When I was diagnosed my HbA1c was 56 and I was told to take 4 metformin a day by my gp. Few weeks later diabetic nurse said that’s to many I should only be taking 2 and as long as my HbA1c came in at under 50 I could stop. I didn’t take any at all, worked hard and it was 38. Just worth running past a gp or diabetic nurse I’m not sure they always communicate! Good luck

Hi Debbie 🙂
I’m good. Getting to grips with my diagnosis and what it means for food etc.
Hope you and James are good this morning 🙂
