I felt like being a bit more daring this evening and had some chicken, salad and 4 small baby Jersey potatoes. I followed that with some strawberries, double cream and a wee portion of salted caramel and chocolate pudding. I had a wee glass of Merlot with it. I expected a big spike but was delighted to see an increase of only 2.4 after two hours.

Result id say. Jerseys usually are little buggers

A good experiment , I'd say the Merlot helped 🙂

And me! (the Merlot helping) - alcohol generally lowers the BG - so a modicum can be exceedingly helpful !

And of course by moderating it - it lasts longer!

PS - if you want to experiment - try a Fitou! Similar taste but a tad lighter. Gorgeous lunch wine on a warm summers day ..... not sure which particular day that will be this year though !

Haven't we all ready had that a few weeks ago.

I know that red wine has 'beneficial' effects on BG but does it actually 'healthily' reduce BG or does it just 'mask' the rise caused by food intake? If that makes sense.

While the liver is busy breaking down the alcohol, it can't multitask and churn out glucose into the system at the same time, ( it's normally ticking over in the background constantly drip feeding glucose into the system) so you genuinely get less glucose floating round in your bloodstream.
