Just got back from my first trip to Dundee to see my new diabetic team.
Got off to a great start when the receptionist apologised for keeping us waiting 2 mins. Had my blood taken - which I hate - but Val the Vampire was very gentle and made me laugh with her nickname and chatting about Horror films.
Then got chatting to the guy who does their eye tests and he told me about flashing his chest to distract a patient when she had a canula inserted as part of her treatment.
My new consultant explained things clearly, asked about my previous experience, how I was diagnosed etc. He also stated that he'd phoned my GP for a chat about me. Then asked me what my main priority was!!! He also suggested the Bertie course as they're waiting to recruit a new dietician before they can put me on their TIM course. He also said, despite my high levels, my HB1AC is pretty good and only slightly higher than a year ago.
Then I saw the diabetic nurse who promised to give me a refresher course in my pump use. Plus she would give me guidance on how to improve my control over my levels.
It might take me 1.5 hours to drive there, but well worth it!
Feel more supported in that one consultation than I have in the 5 years I was under Aberdeen Royal!!! 🙂
