My wife has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 and is currently on a roller coaster of emotions as anyone would be. I have read many of the posts and they are incredibly helpful - so thank you all. To be honest - I am not quite sure what to ask now, apart from how can I help her the most? -what can I do to make any of this easier for her? What have those that have type 1 found to be the most beneficial? Any thoughts or comments would be very welcome

Hi Dingo, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis. I think that probably one of the best things you could do is to support your wife by eating the same things as her. A diet that is healthy for a person with diabetes is a healthy diet for everyone, so you would benefit as well and your wife would not feel as though she was missing out on the things she may have enjoyed prior to her diagnosis. Have a look at the following link - it contains some useful 'ground rules' of etiquette where diabetes is concerned:

http://www.accu-chek.com/documents/resource-center/etiquetteonepage.pdf

It would also be worth getting Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas so you can both understand Type 1 and be prepared for anything it may throw at you 🙂

Please ask anything that may be confusing or concerning you - nothing is considered 'silly' and we will do our best to help! 🙂

Hi Dingo,

Welcome to the forum! My suggestion would be to learn as much as you can about it so you can support and help her.
