My dad is house bound and thus expends little energy, he likes to eat (not overweight) and tradition has always been supper before bed, usually toast, now we know it's not best to eat before bed for many reason aside from diabetes but if his numbers are low and often they are at night then he must eat. He is one of these with DB all over the place for no reason up and down like a yo yo, he could be as daft as 18 at say 10pm and be crashing in the middle of the night and need lucozade and food. My mum usually gives him some bread and jam and maybe a plain digestive as supper and one or two slices dependant on his numbers.
Any tips for good long lasting carb so both can get some sleep/

I'll usually have an oatcake if I need a little boost before bedtime. Either with cheese or a good dollop of flora and marmite.

I'd have something with fat so it delays the effect of the carbs - a yogurt or a couple of savoury biscuits with cheese, depending on blood sugar levels. Not jam though - that's likely to cause a spike followed by a plummet and may be one of the reasons your Dad is yo-yo-ing so much.

I used to go for cheese on toast or a slice of bread with peanut butter on 🙂 Haven't needed it since I stopped needing lantus 🙂

My favourite is like Northerner, cheese on toast , or just grilled cheese on a plate.

great thanks keep the suggestions coming please, agree on the jam.
