Do you record what you eat and when?

Do you record times you have a pee and how much?

What else do you record besides blood glucose levels? And why?

Chris,

Hi if I do exercise I record that in my personal diary

If I eat something new since dx I record how that effects my Blood sugars to

BG, carbs, insulin, exercise, illness, anything really that may affect things that you might want to refer back to in a similar situation.

For as long as you want to do it.

Rob

BG and weight (twice weekly) only for me.

I think if I recorded much more then that I would probably stop doing it after a month. So I record an amount of data that I'm happy to keep on doing, day in day out.

i don't record anything....

Naughty Estellaa!! 😱 😉

I record my BG levels waking and pre-meal, plus any hypos post meal. I also record my blood pressure once a day and resting pulse, and whether I exercised (and the nature of the exercise) 🙂

i just haven't done it for lika 6 or more years got out of the habit, not sure how i would record the rest of what you said notherner and considering the only exercise i get is walking no point in recording it.

It would be worth getting the software for your main meter and downloading the readings every couple of months or so (most meters record 500 readings, so around 2-3 months worth before they start overwriting the readings) so at least you would be able to run off the graphs occasionally to see if there are any patterns 🙂

When I am recording its BG, carbs, insulin, any activity, sometimes food type or other notes (illness etc). Went years without recording anything. Then I had a year of recording absolutely *everything* which made spotting patterns and making adjustments much easier. With the Expert I Was able to rely on the handsets graphs etc and only needed to log if things were drifting.

Of course, now I'm pumping I'm back to logging full time

The only thing anyone mentioned that I've never heard anyone record in terms of diabetes alone - is pee! LOL

For a while after I was diagnosed I did record how many 'visits' I made in order to see if they declined as my treatment began working! 😱

Religiously count carbs everyday and adjust insulin but never record anything unless control is going pear shaped, the only time I do record readings is when I'm due a check.

Carb Portions

Calories

Food

Insulin Quantity, and then a daily TDD split

This is all done in a spreadsheet that has evolved over the months and has graphs and stuff......:D

ooh a man after my own heart! The thing that annoys me about my expert meter is that it won't download to excel/csv correctly with my current set up (Windows 12???, can't remember!) so I have to transcribe everything, too time consuming

Definitely time of reading, food (type & carb content), insulin dose, plus activity - not just sports, but any type of exercise, as I cycle lots and one of my job involves foot / bike patrols, chopping wood, plus any unusual factors eg infection / injury etc. But only write it down ahead of a clinic visit, as they're interested, whereas I'm happy I know what I'm doing.

I don't record anything!

I started recording all calories and carbs and what items I ate, to find what I could eat, but also to diet.

I drew a graph of my BG fasting readings and it became hypnotic (slight exaggeration) as it came down and spurred me on. I still do it now, I've become a geek.:D

I did it with my BP too, as it went way too low and after a change in meds, my graph, another one 🙄 shows a slow but sure upward trend.

I am supposed to do my wee, for another problem, but keep forgetting.😱

I think keeping a record has helped to keep me focused and will carry on.

I do try to record my food intake not really for the diabetes teams but so I can see for myself what I ate when and what that did to my blood sugar levels. Also any exercise I do. Ooh and if anything stressful or upsetting happens. I live within a mile of the Buncefield Oil depot (it exploded in 2001) 10 minutes before the explosion my BM was 6.9 exactly 30 minutes after the explosion my BM was 30.0!!

I only recored my BG at the moment, which does make for rather alarming reading sometimes due to the steroids I'm currently on. I've went and bought a BP monitor so I'll be recording that (when the damn thing finally arrives). In the hospital I found out that I have a lower BP than is average (around 95/60) it's still acceptable but whether it's due to my illness or my heart operation I don't know but I now want to keep an eye on it.

I send my BG readings straight to my Diabetes team via text each time I do it, so tend not to write it down, don't record anything else unless I'm feeling unwell, then I note things down.
