HEALTH bosses are raising the bar to provide ?gold standard? diabetes care.

That is the message from Berkshire West?s Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) diabetes lead Dr Richard Croft, who is spearheading improvements to diabetes care after damning figures revealed less than two-thirds of diabetics were getting the care they were entitled to in 2011-12.

Did anyone else twitch when they saw the last paragraph in that report?

Delegates at the conference, held at Easthampstead House in Wokingham, also heard how the number of people with diabetes in Reading and Berkshire West is set to rise - fuelled by the increase in type 2 diabetes caused by rising obesity.

Let's hope their 'gold standard' leads them to discover a more comprehensive explanation for why people become diabetic...🙄

We've had a few documentaries discussing it in more recent years, that maybe it's the demonisation of dietary fat, leading to overconsumption of carbs, leading to increased insulin production, that might be driving obesity, and that those with a genetic disposition are the unlucky minority who lose control altogether. Perhaps things will only change when those theories become mainstream :(
