CONCERNS have been raised that disabled people in Swindon risk losing their benefits under new reforms.
As of yesterday, changes to the benefit system came into effect, with the Disabled Living Allowance being replaced by the Personal Independence Payment.
The aim of the new payment is to support disabled people of working age to help them live independently. To qualify, claimants must have a face-to-face assessment as well as regular reviews.
The Government has said the reform is vital as the DLA, which was introduced in 1992, is outdated. It is thought the number of claimants will fall by 600,000.
