So Trulicity was working great for like 12 weeks readings of between 6 and 10 mmol/l then all of a sudden I mean within 3-4 days my readings spiked regularly between 15 and 25 mmol/l. So I’ve been put on novomix 30 (I was on it for gestational diabetes so they know I can tolerate it). I had the test for LADA today so was wondering if anyone has any experience of it and how long it takes for the insulin to start controlling my sugars? I’m on it twice a day and I’m getting lower readings but I think I’m going to have to look even closer at my carb intake as currently I’m aiming as advised 50g per meal max but I’m thinking I might need to lower to 30/40g?

@Emiibo You’ll have been started on a lower dose of insulin they you need probably (to be safe). So it might well be gradually raised until your blood sugars are in range.

What are your blood sugars like? When are they being reviewed?

It’s not unknown to have ‘Gestational’ Diabetes which is actually a slow-onset Type 1. Mixed insulin doesn’t give you much flexibility, so it would be worth asking about a basal/bolus regime where you can adjust the amount of fast (meal/bolus) insulin according to what you’re about to eat.

Give the Novomix a few days, test often and keep good records of your blood sugar and what you eat. Also always keep hypo treatments near. Let your nurse/doctor know and they’ll adjust your Novomix dose gradually. That’s normal, gradually taking a little more as needed. But do also ask about a more modern insulin regime (basal/bolus).

Welcome to the forum @Emiibo from another person diagnosed as an adult with T1.

As @Inka said if LADA is confirmed for you it will be worth asking about switching from the mixed insulin to the much more flexible regime of separate Basal (background insulin dealing with the glucose your liver is releasing) and Bolus (quick acting insulin to deal with the glucose from any carbs that you eat).

With regard to carbs in any meal, they will have advised you on a fixed amount as you need to eat to match the fixed injections. If you reduce your carbs you would need less Bolus insulin but with the mix you do not have that flexibility. Talk to your DSN and I would suspect that once you have the confirmation of your diagnosis they will be happy to switch you over. It requires a few more injections but it makes it much easier to manage your levels through the day.

Novomix30 should begin to work pretty much immediately, but as others are saying the dose will need to be adjusted to match your needs, and clinics are usually a little cautious to start with.

Are you in regular contact with your DSN? If your BGs remain high tomorrow it might be worth seeing if you could get hold of them for a chat?

Have you been given an idea of how long your results might take to emerge?
