I returned from Italy last week and by some miracle had lost weight without being good atall, maybe the heat and all the walking and swimming. I started my low carb diet the morning after and have stuck to it 100% since then. I am very lucky to be going to Madeira on Saturday for a week and absolutely determined to stick to it whilst there. I can honestly say I have never managed to go on holiday and do that but keep thinking how great I will feel if I manage it. I think the three month blood test in November is a motivation for me as I was only diagnosed in August and really hoping for good numbers, again that would feel great. So I wondered what tips anyone has for staying on plan whilst on holiday.
Thank you

Hi - I am going to Turkey at the end of the month all inclusive for two weeks and I am really hoping I can keep on my lowish carb intake but will have to wait and see - my downfall is fruit and bread as I love the stuff especially for brekky. A slice of toast, fruit and a cuppa. Like you I also have my three month blood test in November and agree this is good motivation but am really doing this now for myself and my bloods at long last are pretty much under control 🙂 I suppose we can eat a little more of what we fancy as we will be doing lots of walking and swimming ......... Enjoy Madeira and have a great time :D

Absolutely love Madeira and there are plenty of meat, fish and veg dishes to choose from. You have to try what they call black fish, very ugly looking but a really nice fish. The cable cars are amazing.
I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I loved the Scabbard fish in Madeira, especially with a banana! The hanging kebabs were great as well.
I've just got back from Italy. A walk up Vesuvius sent my BG down to 3 and a few other walks did the same.

Thank you. We are regular visitors to Madeira and love all the food which is my downfall. I think I’ll be ok if I can only avoid the sweet stuff and bread, two of my favourite things.

Day 4 of our holiday and I am surprised at how well I have managed. Having a big, late, very low carb breakfast. Smoked salmon, boiled eggs and salad. Zero sugar yogurt for lunch and going out for early dinner. Lots of veg and beautiful fillet steaks and chicken. Lots of exercise. Haven’t been testing BG as don’t want to get disheartened if things aren’t going well in that area but will resume when I return. It helps staying at our favourite hotel and being able to swim all day, plenty to take your mind off food. Not a big drinker but avoiding the cocktails and sticking with white wine of G & T(slimline of course).

First weigh in at weight watchers today after returning from holiday last Saturday. Had lost 4 pounds. Very happy. I was pretty good on holiday. Managed to avoid the bread on 5 out of 7 dinners. Only had lunch twice and just had breakfast as late as we could. Lots of swimming and walking up and down stairs. Food was amazing and stuck to fillet steaks for dinner with veg and eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast. Only had three desserts with dinner. Could have been better but I am pleased.
We are going to Greece in three weeks and feeling very confident now that I have this.
