Does such a thing as a nice tasting, low alcohol (or alcohol free even), low carb beer exist?

Have to say that's not the kind of question that a younger Mumpie would have expected me to ask 🙂

I have pretty broad tastes normally, lagers, pilsner, German beers that kind of thing. Not a massive drinker but sometimes it just sort of fits the bill. And normal ones send my BS pretty sky high...

I am not sure about the carb content but I find low carb Weissbier like Erdinger have more flavour than beers like Heineken zero.

Have been known to have a Jever Fun on a summer's day (<0.5% alcohol; 2.5g carbs;<0.5g sugars / 100 ml).

I think they are vastly better than they used to be, I had a couple of very passable pints of pale ale in The Raven in Bath a month or two back. Work have Heineken and Becks, I prefer the former, though it's not as nice as the ales I had in town.

I should probably pay more attention to what I'm drinking (aside from the fact it's non-alcoholic).

I do find I need to dose for the carbs though as I also head sky high when drinking them (probably not helped by the fact I'm driving in these cases, while if drinking alcohol I'll have a trek home/to the bus to get home, which would burn some of the carbs off)

I recently went to a very good Beer festival and had no bother with BG levels and I was drinking some very dark ales as I prefer them. Started with Parkrun. Not too quick! And then spent a number of hours at festival. Dribbled in some regular insulin and food. One of the few times I think a pump would have suited.
I also made a new best friend who seemed to move very quickly from speaking properly to slurring his worms. I'm reasonably sure he would have cuddled me when he left, but we were both too manly. Thankfully!

Thanks all that gives me something to go on.... I have tried Guinness zero and I thought it was amazingly good taste, so close to the original. Must give the others a try

Another thumbs up for Guinness Zero, but looking at sugar and carb content (indistinguishable in reality, just a matter of time for carbs to dismantle to sugar) one can has to be enough.

Unless, like the OP, you are treating your diabetes with insulin and happy to bolus for your beer

I was out last night and had a few bottles of Lucky Saint (0.5% - so alcohol free in Europe, but not in the UK). It tasted decent and I was pleasantly surprised that having emailed the company to ask how many carbs it contains (their website only has calories) they responded almost immediately to say that a 330ml bottle contains:

- Carbs 3.5g per 330ml bottle / can or 11.55g per pint.
- of which Sugars 0.1g per 330ml bottle / can or 0.33g per pint.

I have tried the skinny lager from tesco, I thought it was very nice , I have also tried skinny ipa , nice too but could only get it on amazon.

I'd not heard of Guinness Zero, I wonder if they have it on tap anywhere - I must ask my local(ish) Irish bar!
Apparently it'll be made available on tap throughout this year. In the meantime, Tesco sells it in packs of 10 cans for £12.00 (Clubcard price £10, but that offer ends today) and it's currently £10 at Sainsbury's with a Nectar card.

Thanks Simon, I'll look out for that one. Bit pedantic but presumably that's per litre not pint? Hope so as 5(ish)g of carbs is pretty easy going!

Good point, someone didn't add up properly - I'm assuming the per-330ml number is correct as that's how they sell it, and I also didn't get much of a BG response (which surprised me) which points to it being carb-light, which is good.

Hmm sadly it's per 100ml so not as low carb as I'd thought /hoped but still worth an experiment. In the name of science...

Is that the Lucky Saint beer? In which case someone has made a mistake somewhere - while the inability to convert to pints doesn't fill one with confidence, the fact it didn't make my BG go up much makes me think it may be closer to the direct-from-manufacturer figures than the supermarket ones.

I had 4x330ml bottles over the course of an evening and took a 2U correction dose half way through, which kept me stable (even if a bit higher than ideal.)

Marstons Resoluton is 4.7% and only 3.5g carbs per 275ml bottle. Its my go to now as I have always loved a beer but was recently diagnosed. Ive been wearing a CGM and even after a few of those I see no change in my blood glucose levels I think it tastes really nice aswell. Unfortunately I cannot do zero or very low percent beers I find them intolerable.

I stumbled across these today. Ferociously expensive but low carb (0.5g /100ml) and low alc (<0.5%) but I thought really nice taste

Just don't want to be splashing out two quid a can too often
