Hi All, I have been type 2 for 20 years, set off by pregnancy. I have lived with high levels most of this time. I had a brain stem stroke 4 1/2 years ago, and moved to another town localy with more suitable accommodation for me. Thus got new doctors.
They took one look at my 3 month readings (sorry cause of stroke brain can't always remember the correct phrases) and was offered insulin! So have been on Novo pen for 10 months now, average test result about 6 months ago was 6.6. I was so happy! Before that I was around 22 -28!
I'm waiting my most recent bloods.
I take 30 mmol before breakfast, and the at 9 in the evening I take another 30. I also still take my pills. Metformin, Glicgliside? And 2 others.

Hallo and welcome from a fellow newbie! Tough times huh? Looks like you're doing good now and feel lots better. Enjoy the forum, lots of good stuff 🙂

Hi Islamum, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the stroke. You’re lucky to be here at all after something like that, but it sounds like you’re back on track with the diabetes. How much support do you need? All sorted?

Anyway, you’ve certainly come to the right place for help and advice, so if you have any questions fire ‘em in🙂

Hi Islamum, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about the difficulties you have experienced, but good to hear that you have managed to get the blood sugars under good control - it's a pity you had to find new doctors for this to happen.

Please let us know if there is any way we can help you with questions of concerns and we will do our best! 🙂

Just wanted to wish you a warm welcome to our friendly supportive forum Islamum. As others have said if you need/want to know anything then please don't hesitate ask, as many times as you like. So sorry to hear of your stroke ~ I am understanding of this because my dad suffered a stroke and I am aware of the difficulties and hindrances a stroke can cause.

Good to see you are managing your diabetes well and producing good bgs. As you didnt mention it I'm wondering if you home test your bgs using a meter test kit? I guess you could teach me a thing or two about diabetes ~ I've only been at for almost two years!

Have a mosey round the different threads Islamum to familiarise yourself with the forum ~ and do please stay in touch, take care x

Thank you all for your warm welcome.
I currently have 2 monitors. One brand new the contour that Bluetooth to my phone!! And the other that I keep in the car.
I try to take my bm before breakfast. But it is nearly always over 10. I looked it up on hear! Very helpful. I know i should take it more often, but it can get me quite down!!

Hi again Islamum. Testing IS a pain in the proverbial isn't it?! I test my bg BEFORE I GET OUT OF BED and my bg is lower than if I take it AFTER getting out of bed (l mainly use my pinkie fingers too, they bleed easily!) If you try this, you may find then that your waking bg will be lower than when you usually test in the morning.

Testing CAN be depressing (tell me about it!) or more to the point, its what the numbers are that we read on our meters that depresses us! Oh, remember to take your testing equipment to your bedroom each night and leave it on your bedside locker so you don't have to get out of bed for it in the morning. As you know, once your feet hit the floor your bg will begin to elevate. Do let us know how you get on.

So to recap: test your bg upon waking ~ before each meal ~ and 2&1/2hrs post meals ~ and sometimes if you want, you could test at bedtime too when you're in bed. If you can get into the habit of testing as said, the results will indicate what food you can or can't tolerate then I believe testing wont get you down as much because it will be an everyday occurrence. Good luck x
