Been baking

They look great.

I tend to set myself a rough carb target for a beige type buffet and I generally use a 1:10 insulin to carb ratio so I will probably inject about 8 units and aim to put about 80g of carbs on my plate so I tot up each item as I select it, which usually isn't a lot from a beige type buffet as they tend to be pretty carby. I try to eat the protein first to slow down the realease of glucose from the carbs, so sausages and eggs and cheese get eaten first or any salad if there is some, then the sandwiches and pastries. Then if I want something sweet afterwards I inject for that separately and then I correct later depending upon what my Libre shows me is happening afterwards.
I usually need more insulin unless I can walk or perhaps dance depending upon the circumstances, after the buffet. It is very rare that I over estimate the carbs at a buffet so usually a correction with insulin is required later for me. That is just my experience anyway.

Thank you good advice, not sure what else will be in the buffet yet. I won’t be eating the quiche not one off my favourites, love a sausage roll but can’t make them

Any tips on having buffet and taking insulin
Either put some food on your plate, count carbs, bolus. Or if you’re keen to prebolus then decide how many carbs you want to eat, bolus, then get that many carbs from the buffet.

I tend to do a good scan of the buffet sizing up the kinds of food available, then decide on an initial bolus and eat the amount of carbs covered by that bolus as a kind of taster. Then I repeat and repeat, as needed. I find it better to bolus/eat in a number of goes as then you don’t get distracted by chat, don’t bolus for something that’s disappeared, and are under less pressure to eat within a certain timeframe.

I do like a buffet! Enjoy @Woodywoodpecker !

Thank you sounds a good plan to me

Buffets are my nemesis so I’m probably not the best person to ask. :D

From previous disastrous experience I tend to predictively assume my estimates will be wrong (too low) by about 25-30%. Those creaking tables of delicious goodies always seem SO hard to estimate.

The really tricky thing with that strategy is if I am driving… in which case I can’t risk dropping below 4.0 when I want to be driving home, so i just have to suck it up and accept the double-figures in the meantime.

I also often stage my doses in increments because there’s quite often a long duration of eating with quite a bit of chatting in between.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on! 🙂

I’m dreading it, was at a party not long after being diagnosed. Only had 2 small sandwiches and sausage roll, got home and was up at 16 for ages, was quite anxious as first time out so Mibi that was why so high . Had to laugh as person we had been sitting with said it would be the 3 bits off candy you had, not likely as they were for my hubby

I’m sure you’ll have a lovely evening. <3

Might it help to take yourself a little packed meal so you know what you are having? I’m sure no one would mind!

I don't understand how to produce a 'beige buffet'. Those quiches do look as boring as hell - sorry! - they'd have crispy fried onions or well done lardons, possible both, if I made them.
