Just a quick questions guys.

If you go to bed high say 12+ can it cause you any damage? im confused by this thats all I have gone to bed last 2 evenings Sunday I was 12.8 and last night I was 13.4,trouble was I was so tired I could not stay awake I was trying to get levels down but to no avail,if I continued to go to bed high would I be in bother?im obviously not planning on doing this and hoping it was just a blip.

Thanks all x

As I see it Steff, you're in bed for about a third of yoru 24 hours, so whatever your levels are then will have a big impact on your overall health, in the long term.

Obviously a couple of nights won't really cause you much harm, except to dehydrate you and probably cause a restless night.

For me, it's an easy call. A couple of units and I can sleep soundly. Not sure what your options would be, other than maybe a brisk walk or half an hour on a Wii (other games machines are available).

I've found lately that, although my evenign exercise is fairly consistent, if I've done very little during the day, it impacts a lot on the bedtime BG.

Rob

Thanks Rob gonna go for the wii option if tonight follows the last 2 nights pattern x

Saw the title and immediately had thoughts of you taking some illicit substance 😱
Thoughts then moved to some form of mechanical elevation apparatus installed in the bedroom...
Be warned, all those recently diagnosed: long term diabetes can cause your mind to work in mysterious ways.
Either that, or I'm losing the plot :D

And that is why i've missed you on the forum Chris :D

Fear not - I'm always lurking in the background, waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting, the vulnerable, the generally deserving-of-a-bit-of-mickey-taking 😉

Well I fall into 2 of those categories 😉

p.s. And the quick fingered Steff got there before me!

Sounds like you maybe ought to adjust your evening meal, what are you having?

Sounds like you maybe ought to adjust your evening meal, what are you having?

Sunday night was cottage pie green beans, cabbage and gravy, followed by a fruit salad

Last night I had chicken curry with plain rice and one onion barji.Pudding was a half bag of grapes.

Can't say I'm too surprised at the readings Steff. I find Victoza delays the rise in readings so a 4 hour high from a meal at nite is not uncommon. A 2 hour reading is quite often the same as the pre-meal reading.

Cottage pie (potatoes!) and fruit Salad!
boiled rice and grapes! (half a bag😱)
Experiment by not having a fruit desert say or having cottage pie without the potatoe or curry without the rice and see what happens.

Although you went to bed fairly high what was it when you woke up and what were you before the meals? I wouldn't eat those meals unless I was below 5.

Unfortunately Rob has the rapid insulin option you and I do not have. You can only reduce your carb intake to get the levels you feel happy with. I don't think going to bed with a reading of 12 will be a particular health problem unless you wake up with a similar reading. Hows your HBA1C these days?

Thanks Vic,
Im still preety dilusional when it comes to carbs im trying with the lierature I have but its taking its time to sink in.I am fine with grapes I know alot are not but i am, but I will take your advice and see how the figures are,my waking BG when I got up this morning was 5.6 I dont know the levels before the food as I only test twice a day unless ill...My last hbA was 7.1 it jumped from 6.5 because we think the missing Victoza was the likely cause.

I have to agree with Vicsetter Steff. If I had that main meal I wouldn't have a dessert at all. Plus I don't think going to bed at 12+ is too bad if you are waking in the 5's. At least it's going down over night. I'm the opposite. I go to bed at around 5.5 and get up at anything up to 9. Blooming DP! XXXXX

Hi Steff, thats a great morning reading. To keep things simple I would cut down on all the starchy food. So potatoes, rice, pasta, bread try and halve what you would normally have and see what effect that has. It's easier to cut down than cut out. Think of it as trying to lose weight, if you eat less you should lose more. Try and eat just a dozen grapes instead of half a bag.

I would be inclined to agree that it isn?t too horrible because you are at least coming down overnight to a good figure. But going into double figures isn?t ideal.

But keep on experimenting 🙂 you are doing well

Not easy when you're doing the cooking for everyone else that I do know.

I cook Rob's meals seperate which makes life a little bit easier. Not from the washing up point of view though LoL
There is no way I could eat the same as him, levels would sky rocket for starters!

Keep up the good work you are doing a great job Steph 🙂

Sarah x
