Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
My type 2 has been changing lately and presented me with a new challenge after 40 years I have started night sweats. I am trying to change my bedding to cope with the damp bed, buying and trying different sheets, duvet & covers pillow cases in different materials is expensive and I am looking for ideas, Has anyone tried BAMBOO bedding? Wool Duvets? Silk???
Your experiences and advices welcomed

You’ll have to try and see. Bamboo sheets are well rated, and relatively cheap and comfortable. Lots of perspiring folk use them with success. Eucalyptus do too, but are three times costlier.

Night sweats aren’t a feature of diabetes, so it’s worth mentioning it to your GP. They are a feature of several conditions you wouldn’t want, but are mostly harmless.

Wool is very absorbent and remains warm - bamboo is rayon, not in the same league.
When I am feeling unwell I usually wrap myself in one of my home made wool blankets - but I have made them myself over the years, some even have hand spun yarn in them, but there is nothing like a good old fashioned wool wrapping.

What medication are you on, if any? Could you be having hypos overnight without realising? I found hypos overnight resulted in sweating.

Any chance you might be going hypo during the night, you can sweat very heavily if you are

What about sleeping attire? I wear 100% cotton other wise sweating occurs. I also have a wool duvet and only use 100% cotton sheets/covers. This seems to help.

Are you sure your night sweats are not hormonal?

I assumed that @Barbarashusband was male, who tend not to get hormonal sweats, and also Type 2, so I would not expect cold sweats that persist all night to be due to hypos.

And as I said before, night sweats can be a feature of other conditions. I would list them, but it would take ages. The commonest, apart from menopausal symptoms, is no cause found. The rest need medical assessment, so I still say mention it to your doctor. You can’t assume that no cause will be found, though that is by far the likeliest.

I can get night sweats when I’m not hypo. It’s one of my other incurable conditions that causes that.😉

Whilst the sweats may have nothing to do with diabetes, it would be useful to know what your blood sugars are like so you can discount it if possible.
As others have said, sweats are a symptom of hypos. I also find I can be clammy if I wake in the night with a high blood sugar reading.
