BBC Article Today Suggesting Diabetes Care for Younger People Under Threat

How can they cut care for such a condition? There is so much bloat in the NHS and this is what they target? I know have to wait for details but this is hugely concerning. My daughter has an appointment in July regarding her choice of pump. Im wondering now whether she will even get a pump. The NHS was and is still a great thing and there needs to be control of the cost of it, but hitting conditions like this is alarming!

I would suggest you hold on a bit before making any real comments. What you are seeing is the start of a funding round and all the stuff coming out at the moment will be different sides making noises. I am sure that linking children and diabetes has a bit more to do with writing an eye catching press release than any definite plans.

One thing for sure is that there is a big funding problem in the NHS and a lot of mud is going to be slung in all directions before it is resolved. Sorting out the reality is going to be very difficult for those, like most of us, who are on the outside.

Just in case you are not on Twitter/X and can't see the video - Partha Kar goes on to explain that there was one anonymous reply to the survey suggesting saving money by cutting the Diabetes care for children - it seems that the BBC have taken that and sensationalised their message/headline

Thank you for looking in to this, the BBC would have known this surely but still just run with their sensationalist headline, they really are something else. Hopefully, it stays as just a comment on a survey and a sensationalist headline.

Not sure we can just blame the BBC. What on earth were NHS England doing including information about that anonymous poll response in whatever they sent to the BBC? I get the feeling that Prof Kar isn't happy and hopefully he'll be banging some heads together.

We can all produce theories about why things are leaked. My favourite one is that the amorphous "they" soften us up with horror stories of what might happen so that we are grateful that the end result is not as bad as feared. You see this every budget.
