Overweight people living on the coast currently have to trek to Addenbrooke?s Hospital in Cambridge for help, but will soon be able to receive support in their communities.
The community-based service, launching in January 2013, will be run by Mytime Health for HealthEast NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group.
More than 1,200 people will be targeted by the service each year, which is aimed at those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 40 or over 35 with an obesity-related illness.
