Should this be done at exactly 3:00am or can it be up to so many minutes either side?

I did one last night when I woke up to go downstairs which was 3:43am.

You should choose to test whenever you think it will give you the information you are wanting to check Gill. 🙂

3am is not bad for a 'general idea' as it's likely to be a) about halfway though the night and b) coincides with a 'dip' in cortisol output (and therefore BGs) in many people.

Personally if it's a spot-check I would be happy with anything 2am - 4am

For a full picture I usually opt for midnight, 2am, 4am and 6am.

But it's up to you really
Mike

Doesn't need to be a fixed time, in fact it might help to vary the time if you are only night-testing occasionally. I try and make sure to get a four hour block of sleep before having to get up, as adult sleep cycles last four hours. But if I've set the alarm for 3am and I happen to wake up at 2am, I'll do the test at that point and save having to wake up again!
