Well, it is exactly one year ago today that I decided to see what my pancreas could do for me and stopped injecting the lantus 🙂 I'm happy to report that it has performed extremely well, with numbers usually varying by less than 2 mmol/l overnight and usually less than 0.5 mmol/l. I have needed a little support from the lantus on 3 or 4 occasions when I have had the sniffles. 🙂

Still needing novorapid for any carbs though, although I suspect I do get some pancreatic support to help suppress any potential highs and only getting double figures when poorly/lazy 🙂

That's interesting to read...didnt know that you could go without lantus on MDI....every day's a school day! 🙂

Gold stars Alan!

What do your clinic make of your lack of Lantus?

When I told the stand-in consultant (actually a GPSI) he seemed unimpressed and just said 'well, it probably won't last long'. My 'proper' consultant said that nothing about diabetes surprises him! 🙂

The biggest benefit was a little unexpected, although it might seem obvious - all of a sudden I came to realise how much night time hypos had worried me, but now that worry lifted (although I did have a couple of very strange ones anyway, but that's diabetes!).

I would be interested to know if there any more individuals as your self who find a balance with pancreas and liver without injections.....

Its just amazing....

Actually, there are a couple of other members here who seem to be quite similar, although not nearly 5 years down the road as I am 🙂

me neither!

Longest honeymoon period in the history of diabetes🙄

Lucky you Northie🙂

Everybody is different. Glad its working for you, and less injections 🙂

I did suggest doing something similar before I got my pump.
Although it was in a fit of tears due to X amount lantus being too much and one unit less being not enough.

That was part of my problem - once you are down to 5 units then every unit change is 20% as there are no half-unit pens for lantus. I was waking in the low 4s with 2 units so thought I would see how I was with no units - and it turns out I was fine! 🙂

It's been so interesting to see how this has panned out for you and like others have said I hope that you can continue like this for a long time to come. Must be lovely not to worry about night hypos.

It certainly is, especially since I have had a few in the past and live alone, so no-one around to help if things got really bad.

Wow, well done you Alan 🙂

My pancreas can't cope WITH lantus nevermind without! Do you want to give a blood sample in my place for my next hba1c 😉

Xx
