I'm on my 3rd day of testing and I made changes yesterday and just wondered what people thought:

Tuesday
07.23 7.0
08.09 6.1
09.02 5.2
10.01 7.9
11.11 10.6
12.06 10.8
12.40 11.5

Wednesday
07.21 18.3
09.00 13.3
10.01 12.3
11.12 14.4
12.25 11.2

I then made the following basal rate changes (changed by 10%):
07.00 - 08.00 from 1.00 to 0.95
08.00 - 09.00 from 1.15 to 1.20
09.00 - 10.00 from 0.74 to 0.81
10.00 - 11.00 from 0.67 to 0.74
11.00 - 12.00 from 0.61 to 0.67
12.00 - 13.00 from 0.67 to 0.74
13.00 - 14.00 from 0.67 to 0.74
14.00 - 15.00 from 0.67 to 0.74

And then today results are:

07.25 11.9
08.10 10.9
09.03 7.8
10.06 7.1
11.02 7.6

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sarah,

My first question is what is happening before 07.25? Your obviously too high around this time so wondering what your basals are at this time and have you tested your bg before 07.25?🙂Bev

I'm on my 3rd day of testing and I made changes yesterday and just wondered what people thought:

07.23 7.0
08.09 6.1
09.02 5.2 << Falling to this point
10.01 7.9 << Begin to rise

12.06 10.8
12.40 11.5

Wednesday

To my mind a basal test is all about stability. It doesn't matter where you start... you should finish no more than +/- 1.8 mmol/L from that point. Your basal should not be 'correcting' a high stating point, because on other days you won't be high and all that extra basal will drop you into a hypo. Your basal should hold you pretty much flat if you don't eat anything - in an ideal world!

These 3 tests together show a general downward trend to about 9.30-10.30 and then a rise after that.

If those were my results I would be *dropping* rates from approx 5-6am until approx 10am and then increasing rates into the early afternoon.

My morning tests always seem to vary..... I had a CGM to check my overnight bloods as I keep sleeping through my alarms(!) and I thought we'd sorted the overnights out, but maybe not....

Thanks Mike, I've dropped them from 5am till 10am and lets see what happens tomorrow!

Here are the rest of todays results so far:

07.25 11.9
08.10 10.9
09.03 7.8
10.06 7.1
11.02 7.6
12.07 8.0
12.42 7.1 - ate lunch here
14.45 6.3
16.23 10.7

By the looks of the latest 10.7, some of my afternoon basals need tweaking too

Not necessarily, would be worth doing fasting basal checking from lunch to tea-time as separate block on a couple of days running before any changes (IMO of course) , you ate lunch this time which could be a variable for the rise. 🙂

Well I don't think dropping them between 5am and 10am worked....my results this morning were:

00.31 10.6
06.22 15.5
07.33 19.1
08.29 12.7
12.00 9.9
13.08 9.9 - Ate lunch

I think I'll put them back to what they were and try and do some overnight tests - lets see if my alarms wake me! lol

Ugh! That's not ideal is it... :( And really weird that the drop you were trying to level out was even more marked!

Are you having hypos before these tests start? Cos something really weird is going on

No hypos that I've woken up for - I don't feel like I've had a drop in the night either (I usually wake up with muggy head if my sugars have dropped but not gone properly hypo)

This is the problem my DSN has - she doesn't know what's going on. She's even consulted with the other DSNs and they kind of look at my results blankly too lol

I often go by "feel". If I feel something isn't quite right I use a bit of instinct and adjust. How much do you trust yourself to do this?
