How many basal rates do u have set in ur pump?
U get basal every hour. Is that on the hour????
If u have a basal set at a half past time ie 6.30am then it changes at 8.00pm does that mean u get an extra dose or will it split the basal rate??
eg. 6.30am 0.250u 8pm 0.200u will it give 0.250u at 7.30pm then the 0.200 at 8pm or does it split the 0.250u????

I think it'll split the dose. Most pumps these days don't give the entire hour's basal in one go, it's split into multiple doses and given every few minutes or so, so it's quite easy for your pump to deal with basal rates that change on the half hour mark. I have ten different basal rates at the moment, but I've had as much as twelve in the past. 🙂

Alex has 8 different basal rates and as far as I understand it the pump releases insulin every 10 seconds or so - so I would imagine that when it hits the hour or half hour mark then it uses the previous hours rate and then changes over on the hour - so I doubt there would be a noticeable change. Some people have worked out how many pulses per minute and then add this back in if they have taken the pump off for a few minutes for a shower. I havent got to this point yet - but maybe I will in the future.🙂Bev

How do u work out pulses?

Hi Simone, I am useless at maths - but it all depends on which pump you have. You need to ring medtronic or whoever you get your pump from and they should be able to give you a guide on how many pulses a minute their pump do. Then you take the 1 hour basal for that period and divide by 60 minutes and then divide again by the number of pulses and it should tell you how many per minute.🙂Bev
