Hi
Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts re my numbers today. I am currently on 18 units of Tresiba (only been on it for about 3 weeks). Started on 22 but now on 18 for last 4 days. Today my numbers are a bit all over the place 9 before breakfast took 10 units of Novorapid and was 10.4 2 hours after breakfast. So thought ok quite good but not quite 7-9 but then 4 1/2 hours later had a hypo when BG was 4. Now does this seem like my basal is too high or bolus too high? Just can't work it out. Also once I had the hypo have had to use a lot less bolus this evening then usual as continually going down even though breakfast bolus was 9am and should be long gone. If it is the basal then why this sudden drop when I have been on 18 for past 4 days - so confused??

Any ideas? Thanks

Are you on set units of NovoRapid at the moment? What did you have for your breakfast? x

Hi, No I take 1:4 in the morning and 1:10 in the afternoon. I had two slices of wholemeal toast with peanut butter. The day before I took one slice of toast with peanut butter and took 5 units which was fine so thought two toasts would mean double hence 10 units.

Questions for your clinic really, but 1:4 vs 1:10 is a heck of a difference. It may be right... but it could also be that it's a slightly 'cheated' ratio that doesn't scale well when you double the carbs.

As to whether it's basal or bolus, the only way I can ever tell is to do a basal test (look in the usefulinks thread in the newbies section). Tedious, but very useful. I have to recheck mine several times a year 🙂
