Basal insulin compromised ?

Did you do the air shot before you injected and see insulin come out of the needle. There is always the possibility of the needle being blocked and the insulin not being administered if you didn't actually see insulin come out of the needle before you dialed up your dose.
Got the usual shot of insulin before hand.

Went for a big walk and checked when I come back and had climbed to 13.9. have changed my pen anyway as there seemed to be a bubble moving quite freely in the pen. Do you think the basal is to blame ?

Consultant once said if in doubt throw away pen cartridge & start afresh, saying its cheaper to do that then end up in hospital or having to call ambulance out with dka, always kept that advice in mind when confounded by increasing bg levels.

I used to change the needle on my pen every couple of days (whether I needed to or not 🙂 ). I'm much better at changing them now but not every injection.

It's like from birth, coming back off holiday for a week and your parents running the tap (we only had running cold water in the house) for X number of minutes before putting the kettle on. I still do that and flush the loo asap after coming back in the house - and yes our water is metered. Fractions of pence and evens if it were a couple of ££££ - I am well worth more than that to ME.

Oh - and I at first compromised - new needle and new lancet first thing, every day. Once I discovered I had so very many bits of me which do not absorb insulin well - new needle every single time.

That pen does seem a possible culprit then. Keep a close eye on this new pen to make sure it’s working ok.
Same again this morning I'm afraid. Don't know what is happening ? Sugar creeping up between meals as well so definaltly the basal insulin I think.

Hmmm, do you have a separate new box of pens in case the whole box is ‘off’? If so, have a last try with that.

If it’s still not working, you might have to consider upping your basal very carefully and gradually, but before doing that rule out illness, hormones, etc etc. You could also try injecting it in a new body area.

No only have 3 unopened pens from same batch, will try a new area tonight I think at maybe 1 more unit than usual, just so strange as was going brilliantly then 2 bad nights and throws everything off.

Sometimes there’s just no reason for things going wrong - it’s frustrating. If you do increase your insulin, be cautious and test extra. Things can change back to normal as quickly as they can go wrong, so just be watchful and careful.

I will, thank you once again for the advice and support.
