Is that your lunch today, Northerner? Or just a snack 😛 ....good to see you back 🙂

Should keep me going for the rest of the year, I think! 🙂 I love a salmon salad sandwich and it's not going to go off. I think there must be a general decline in tinned salmon sales here because they replace all the John West with these own brand ones, now they've gone within just a few months trial. I think a lot of people go for tinned tuna as it tends to be a lot cheaper, but I read that the tinned tuna doesn't containg the Omega oils that fresh tuna or tinned/fresh salmon does (something to do with the canning process)

Interesting info. I can take it or leave it personally but Mr Marten enjoys the odd tin of sardines or pilchards (so do the cats). I'm not a great lover of fish generally, although mackerel fillets are ok, or something like tuna steak or sea bass if I'm out at a restaurant where it might be the safest option.

I do try to like fish, honest, but there is a limit!

If that really is your cupboard Alan - clearly in the past we have both consumed the same brand of ice cream - since an identical blue ice cream tub is also MY peg box!

But I don't keep it in the 'tins' cupboard and a lot of our pegs are plastic now. LOL

Hehe! 🙂 Nothing more useful than an old ice cream tub 🙂

It's not a cupboard, it's actually what was rather grandly described as a 'breakfast bar' in the house details when I bought it. It took me a year or two to work out that they were referring to that shelf in the kitchen! 🙄 😱 :D

Hee hee - our pegs are kept on the worksurface nearest to the back door !

Odd as Morrisons had reduce the price of John West red salmon week before last.

I seem to be missing these salmon deals. Love salmon, but been living on tinned tuna for months, even though it has lost it's omega 3.🙂

Love salmon both fresh and tinned, always enjoy any meal with it . I also love sardines on toast , on of my very favourites.

Thats a good bargain Notherner.

Many of the things I buy, I think they are a bargain only to find out I'm wrong.

I get used to paying what I pay and tend to see a slight reduction as bargain.

It’s only when I mention this ‘bargain’ to others that I find out I could have bought better and cheaper all along.

How about a thread here specifically for the tight wads amongst us to quote foods we buy that are normally quite a price but we’ve seen at a reasonable offer?

This could be a conflict free area for anyone to mention what they have seen/bought. Others could inform us of better deals they have seen without telling us ‘we should not buy that’ or ‘we should not shop there’.

Example:

Asda Exeter. Walnuts big bags that Asda usually charge £8/kilo are currently 2 for £5 equating to £5/kilo.

Because these keep well in a jar and I like to use them in a lot of my cooking, these seemed worth the £5 investment (for me).

Asda seem to have this offer on all their big bags of nuts (yes – I know I could have said “big nut bags” – perhaps another thread for the lewd comments?).

Anyone seen a better price for good quality walnuts?

Loadie
