Around 2,000 Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School students will be going blue on Nov. 14 as they march and carry banners to raise awareness for diabetes. Not only will this walk be held on World Diabetes Day, but also on the 90th anniversary of insulin, which was discovered by the school’s namesake.

“This type of event, especially here in London being known as the birthplace of insulin, this event sort of brings that awareness back to the forefront and the minds of Canadians and indeed the world,” said Grant Maltman, curator of the Banting House National Historic Site of Canada, which is owned by the Canadian Diabetes Association. “This is the one day in the year where the whole world unites to try and raise awareness about the seriousness of diabetes.”
