I have been reading with interest the sticky of the Food experiments of late, and tonight I decided I was going to have a baked potato

Since diagnosis several weeks ago I have view the potato as the enemy and cut it out more or less from my diet.

Not really that scientific but the spud was 260g and I had some low fat grated cheese with it

Pre- Meal BG level was 4.4
1 Hour post meal was 6.5
2 Hour my level was 5.3

I reckon that was okay?

They are great.

Just to confuse you a little more but people's insulin resistance varies in the day, it is generally highest in the morning and lowest in the evening.

If you had the baked potato at lunch time you may see different results.

Yeah G those are fantastic results,I had nightmares with jacket potatoes but since moving over to sweet potato I seem to have been ok.

When I did that under the food experiment but my levels went up and up lol

Margie - I have noticed that, my BG levels tend to be higher in the afternoon though. I don't seem to have many problems in the morning & breakfast 🙄

Steff - I did notice your levels on that experiment 😱 It was interesting to see the different results people have, and for me as well. I might try it with sweet potato next time, but I'll try another jacket potato at lunchtime, I'm guessing they'll be a lot higher!!

Those are good figures, jacket pots to me are the same as mash, I tend to go up 5 or more. May try again as that was some while ago.🙂

We are testing the middle of the day when dad has lunch which doesn't include potatoes. He seems to have his higher readings after lunchtime yet can eat new potatoes at dinner time with meat and veg and his levels don't go as high as they do at lunchtime. Stopped doing mash or baked potatoes

Lunch is normally GI bread with eg chicken or eggs always with salad leaves and herbs. We had stopped testing mid day but started again as I remembered this was when we saw the higher numbers. Dad eats more at dinner time yet numbers can be better in the evening.

Wish dad had the same readings as Graeme with a baked potato as it would fill him up more!
