If a badly controlled diabetic of 70 got coronavirus, how likely would it be that they would be hospitalised, and how likely would they get over it, and what would be the chance of it being fatal for them

I don’t think anyone could say but all we can do is keep ourselves as healthy as possible, and control our blood sugar, as well as reducing our chances of catching it in the first place, of course.

I know you asked similar in your previous recent thread and I can understand your concern. I think it’s perfectly natural to be worried (I am too) , but, remember most people do survive even if they have underlying health issues 🙂 People with diabetes have had it and are ok now.

I think Jane we have no more chance of dying from Coronavirus than we do of dying of any other deadly disease we might contract. We stand less chance of dying from anything aged 70 IF our co-morbities are well controlled BUT there's no guarantees even then. You and I both have to face it - the more birthdays we have, the closer we get to death whatever we do!

It's a fact of life - life itself is finite.

I genuinely don’t think there’s enough data for anyone to do anything more than guess.

The last numbers I saw were based on less than 2000 people in one country (China) suggested a death rate of 8% for those in their 70s, and a death rate of 9.2% from confirmed cases who also had diabetes.

As I understand it these numbers overlap, rather than combine, and only apply if you actually have the virus (rather than to the whole population that is eg living in their 70s...)

So the way I read it 9 times out of 10 you would recover however nastily you got the virus.

But your best bet is still to try to avoid getting it. Certainly while the healthcare system is under significant pressure.
