Diabetes impacts on the whole body, including the immune system. As such, diabetes can make some people more susceptible to common infections, while badly controlled diabetes can further increase this susceptibility.

Good control is critical not only for common infections, but for the more serious conditions regarded as having an increased risk for diabetics.

For flu there is an annual vaccination programme that all diabetics are entitled too, this/last year there is also the swine flu vaccine.

A vaccination against pneumonia is also available for diabetics, to stop chest infections from becoming worse.

Being sick by itself can raise your blood glucose. Moreover, illness can prevent you from eating properly, which further affects blood glucose. diabetes can make the immune system more vulnerable to severe cases of the flu. People with diabetes who come down with the flu may become very sick and may even have to go to a hospital. You can help keep yourself from getting the flu by getting a flu shot every year.id say a badly controlled diabetic will be more susceptible to flus etc etc.thats why it is vital you maintain a good as control at all times

If the sugars are too high and things are poorly contoled it will have an impact on many other things, inckuding a simple case of the snuffles.
This is why it is important we keep things under control and look after ourselves.

Most things get better in time, but in a diabetic it takes a little longer, which is why we are offered things like flu jabs.

The advice goes well for everyone and that is to eat a balanced diet, this helps keep things under control along with physical activity and our medication. Treats are alowed, but in moderation. We all need a treat sometimes.
