Equalled my worst ever hypo earlier this evening - a sweaty and shaky 1.7 😱

I had injected but faffed around getting my meal and obviously the insulin had hit its peak shortly after I'd eaten, but not yet digested, my meal. Was very worried this might mean the jelly babies might not work with all that food in my stomach, but managed to get the level up to 3.4 after 10 mins, then 5.4 after 20 mins. Felt absolutely ravenous, even though I'd just eaten!

Scary!

I read (I think in Ragnar Janas' book) that something fizzy helps the stomach to empty, so lucozade etc is best if you have a hypo when you're full. I remember having a horrible hypo after fish and chips once that Glucotabs just wouldn't help. Have always stuck to pop since if I'm full!

I know that "feeling" about being ravonus ! Hope u ok !! 🙂

Fine now thanks 🙂 Pigeon, I don't have any fizzy drinks - never liked them so they never occur to me to buy, but will consider getting a bottle of something in tomorrow!

Those little mini cans are good Dead handy and the nurse i had when pregnant said just the right amount for hypos if followed by some carbs Glad your feeling better x

Phew! Thank goodness you got that sorted! Glad you're feeling better Alan. Katie

oooh - a real hypo LOL

I think it's not a waste of time as long as you can work out what caused it, cos hopefully you just avoid doing it again.

Wouldn't that be nice ? ROFL

Sounds very unpleasant Northerner, lemonade is very good for settling tums, so maybe a help for a severe hypo like that.

😱 Glad you are on the up so to speak. Can't have been nice at all for you.
Hope you get things back on track Alan.🙂

Please excuse my total ignorance as know nothing about it, but this wouldn't be connected to you stopping your lantus would it?

oh that is low, glad you got it sorted, hope you dont have a repeat any time soon

I ALWAYS use a can of coke if I'm below 2.5. Maybe a bottle and let some of the fizz out but it is supposed to be better if it's fizzy. It tells the stomach to empty whether it wants to or not!

It's a good job you stopped your lantus.😱

Time to give up insulin for good I feel :D

Sorry to hear you had such a rough hypo. Glad to hear you have recovered now. We buy the mini cans of Coke in packs of 12, 150ml in each one. I think Tescos sell them singularly too for about 30p each, so you could always just get a couple in and see how you go.

Shame to hear your news Alan and pleased you are in a safer place now.

No faffing next time though young man after you take your insulin eh?
:( 😉

I agree, always have the little cans of coke handy - I don't like fizzy much myself so these are perfect size and about as much as I can drink.

Scary when it gets that low, glad you got over it ok. 🙂

glad to hear your ok now alan, that must have been realy scary.

Alan I feel so sorry for you. That must have been an awful hypo. I hope that you've felt better for the rest of the day.

glad your ok now 🙂, how many units of novarapid are you on a day now.

Varies, but usually between 20-25 units 🙂

Do you find since you stopped your lantus you feel more tired and less energetic. I find when i have spells of less insulin i feel more tired and tempremental. At the mo i am having another spell of needing more insulin-lantus include and feel brilliant, compared to when i have to reduce insulin.
