Hi
I've learnt a big lesson the hard way.

Just got back from a few badly needed few days away.

We were half way on our 6 hour drive to Cornwall and stopped for a break. As usual I took my BG and needed to correct. This is when I realised I didn't have my pump with me - I'd forgotten to put it back on after a shower before we left. No problem I thought - backup pens and needles are in the case so a couple more hours then I can sort things out. Only I'd forgotten to pack them !! 😱😱 I had spares of everything including insulin but no way of getting itinto my body.

Rang Medtronic to see if they could help and they were fantastic - arranged for an emergency loan to be delivered to my hotel the next day so I only had to get hold of some insulin to cover the next 18-24 hours. I visited the local hospital who confirmed my BG was high 🙄 but they had no insulin pens of any kind. I eventually got some after a late night drive through some of the darkest, bendiest roads Cornwall has to offer. By this time, however, my BGs had been in the 20s for over 18 hours - waaay higher than I would normally get. Not only that, it seemed to take ages to get my BGs down to normal levels.

Over the next few days my mouth started to hurt and it just got worse and worse to the point all I could eat was yoghurt. Local doctors, pharmacists etc wouldn't look at my mouth (because of Covid) so I did some research and decided it was oral thrush and bought some gel which soother but didn't cure. I'm back now and have spoken to my GP (but not seen her) - she agrees it is probably oral thrush and has prescribed a strong antibiotic. If they work then it was thrush, if they don't then it has either 'gone deep' or is something else. In the meantime, my whole mouth hurts like crazy.

Lesson learnt !

Ref, can I correct you. You are not a bad diabetic. A forgetful one maybe, but not a bad one! Hope it sorts itself out PDQ.

I did exactly that one night after we set off to Dover to catch a ferry to France for several weeks in our motorhome - called daughter in Rugby, she met us at Jct1, rushed me back home (near Jct3) and delivered me back to husband. Phew!

I would be amazed if there is anyone who has not had an occasion when they have forgotten things.
I had a coach trip to London for the weekend when my pump failed. No problem I will use my pens. There was no insulin in either of the pens! Sobbed in Boots at the coach station , and eventually got an emergency prescription for cartridges for my pens. Phew!!! I would love to say that nothing similar has ever happened!!!

Not bad diabetics just normal people who forget some of the many things we have to do all the time.

Your in great company here
I’ve lost count of the silly things I’ve done with my insulin.
Only yesterday I completely forgot to do my morning Basal , oh and all my other morning meds 🙄

My tongue was in my cheek when I said bad diabetic. I can forgive myself for forgetting my pens but MY PUMP!

@Benny G - I tried over the counter meds first on the advice of a pharmacist. The antibiotic i've been prescribed is an anti-fungal and the GP has said if it is oral thrush then they will defintely clear it up.

Andy

When I had oral thrush I ended up on anti biotics as the normal
ant fungal treatment wouldn`t work.

Join the club on forgetting some of your equipment, luckily you
had the sense to sort it out.

What a nightmare for you. Thank goodness you managed to get some emergency supplies (albeit not very easily!). But well played by your pump manufacturer in getting you some emergency kit.

Sorry to hear about your mouth. Hope the pain subsides and the ABs do the trick 🙂
