Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Just found this forum. I've had my results back and have got background retinopathy. Really upset me as I've been trying hard to get my numbers under control. Optician test was fine 6mths ago and yearly diabetic check in August was good. So was really worried and upset when I read the letter today. Reading this forum has helped me to calm down. Going to see the doc to talk through current stress levels, meds and to work on improving fitness and weight loss.
Any advice greatly received in juggling a stressful job with eating/preparing the right foods. When I get home I'm exhausted but I need to make changes.

Hello Meli, welcome to the forum. I can understand that the retinotherapy result is upsetting. It will be good to see the doctor and find out what it means, but at least finding it early is very good, and will give the best chance of getting help if it is needed it yet. It may just be at the stage where it needs to be monitored. I had this scare once and on the next test it had gone again.
It sounds as if you are doing very well indeed overall with good results on your August check. Have you had Type 2 for very long?
Have you got a particular eating plan that you follow? If not there are some ideas if you look on the thread on advice for Newbies.
Juggling stressful work demands with trying to follow a healthy lifestyle is certainly very difficult, but it is very important to try to keep those stress levels down, as they will not be good for you and will effect your blood sugars.
It is difficult to suggest things with out knowing much about your lifestyle, but what helps me at such busy time is setting aside some time to make an eating plan, and make sure that I've done the shopping to ensure that I have some quick and easy things to make or something in the freezer.
Then when I come home in a tired and stressful state, I'd make a simple omelette with a salad, or may be some cooked chicken and a few veggies out of the freezer. Then sit and eat and RELAX. Exercise is also a good de-stresser, and helps with diabetes. Not something you can easily do at the end of a stressful day, but maybe have a think if there is a way to fit a walk into your day somewhere. It will give you some headspace as well.
I hope it goes well with your visit to the doctor. Please let us know how it can goes and any questions we can help with

My background retinopathy was first spotted in the mid 1990s and I still have it! However I was just as hacked off with it in the 1990s as you are now and assumed this was The beginning of the End, so to speak so resigned myself to it. Hey Ho; sh1t happens, sigh …...

But it hasn't and there's no reason to suppose yours will either, as long as you keep your day to day BGs and your A1c in check!
