Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I don't know for certain that this is anything to do with diabetes, could just be my bed. But don't know for sure. I went to the doctors a few months ago and they said they could do nothing because "my sugars were too high" which has nothing to do with my back. If it was then it wouldn't be hurting right now.

I don't know if I am just getting worried about it but I just have a worried feeling that it is something to do with my kidneys. It could just my anxiety setting in. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

You need to go back and tell the Dr your sugars are under control but you still have the back pain so could s/he look further into it for you.

It’s worth saying that in the absence of any symptoms in the waterworks or you don’t feel unwell, it’s very unlikely to be a kidney problem. I agree with Sue, take your bad back back to the doctor, it’s much more likely to be a simple mechanical problem.

I have had back pain for a while now and similar thoughts passed through my mind.
I looked back and recalled I have had issues in the past with my back more like an ache rather than a pain.
Not having any water works issues.
Narrowed it down to this sofa here and the way I sit and that is is more than likely muscular. Perhaps a posture issue.
In the morning I have no issues, it progresses as the day goes on.
I now walk a lot and during walking it gets steadily worse and if I put my hand on the mucles where the are close to the spine I feel the muscles moving and that is where the discomfort is. The muscles are being used something they have not been used to in the past.
I doubt now mine is kidney related, I have had renal cholic 3 times in the past brought on by kidney stones and that is excruciatingly painful. Once in the UK, once in Sumatra and once in Germany which was pain beyond belief. So I have eliminated kidneys subconsciously.
I will chat to my GP about it when I return to the UK.
@KleboldKlan
When your levels are under control I would be revisiting my GP, you need to put your mind at ease once and for all.
You could visit an osteopath or a sports injury specialist privately if you believe it is muscular. I also have done that in the past when my muscles literally locked up in my back. They are not expensive. The more you worry about it, the worse it may seem to be.
Good luck
Just an add on thought sometimes the shoes I wear seen to effect my back so I need to look into the type I wear.

This sounds similar to mine. I suffer with Non-Specific back pain anyway, but about a year ago I started getting very specific pain in my kidney area at night while I was in bed, very unlike any pain I'd had in my back before. I'd get up in the morning, sometimes on my knees as the pain was bad enough that I couldn't stand, and within a few minutes of going to the loo and getting in the shower, it would go. I googled it (never google your symptoms!) and found that there were lot of people with this same issue, but no one with a definitive diagnosis. This was what got me into the doctors, which is then where they found I had diabetes. Since my diagnosis, the situation has improved so, so much, but I do still get the pain on occasion, so I hope that it is related to my diabetes and that it will eventually go. I will mention it again on my next appointment though as it kind of got ignored with all the fuss they were making over my diagnosis.
