Hi,

Took a weeks holiday in Nice France to get some sun. ALthough it rained a couple of days at least it was warm. The French (bless them) give you bread with your main course. They also eat croissants for breakfast. So I had a week of croissants and I might have had some chips too and the odd dessert and beaucoup de vin.

Been back a week and have eaten fish, salad and veg. BG is 6.3 two hours after lunch so looks like I haven't done too much damage.

Having a few days off fish. Tonight its roast veg and either pork loin/ sausage/beef stew.

Hardly a carb in site. No alcohol this week either. I am being a very good boy.

Oui, bien sur.
However when I speak french to a french person they don't always understand.
I thought I had a good accent but apparently not.
All I needed to say was Un cafe Americaine grand avec deux croissant si vous place sur place which means eat in!
I tried to speak french all the time but I don't think the French understand O Level French from 50 years ago.
I did say oh la la a lot too.

On a serious note, they seem to appreciate that you try, it's just when they reply to you......in french.....you draw a blank. That carefully thought out sentence is OK. But it's the reply that dents the confidence. We were taught more than 50 years ago, but still think in English and then convert to school French. As long as you can order , read your way around a menu so as not to get a 'nasty' surprise it's fun. Think steak tartare turning up when I thought I had ordered steak tartare. Gallant husband ate it. We tend to Google the menu and cheat with a phrase book, but I do like to order if I can in French......lots of sans frittes, pas de pain, mais beaucoup de fromage avec salade.
Someone remind me how to add emojis again.......wanted the sick

We have a fairly limited allocation of emojis, so you may need to be creative!

Hope you had a smashing holiday @lordburnside

Perhaps the beacoup du vin kept your liver busy so it drizzled out less glucose?

Sometimes I find the extra walking about that often comes along with being on holiday helps take the edge off the ‘holiday extras’ I’m eating too?

Well done for jumping back into action.

Above post should be steak tartine!!!!!!! Not two tartares...... honestly, fingers and brain not co-operating.
