Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey everyone, I'm a 20 year old female student who has been diagnosed type 1 diabetic since around my 18th birthday (that was a hell of a birthday present!).

I posted here over a year ago talking about how I was failing to keep control of my diabetes, would eat basically whatever I wanted, was binge drinking and had a hba1c of 89. I was terrified of the testing meter and loathed doctor's appointments.

Now I figured the forum was due an update! My most recent hba1c was 52!!!! 🙂)))) And I'm still loving student life and making the most of it.
I know it's not in the normal range and I still have a ways to go, but I am in a way, way better position than I was. I'm testing roughly 4-5 times a day and usually get my insulin amounts right (except white bread still makes me spike then crash. god i miss it). I still loathe doctor's appointments but they're no longer terrifying and embarrassing.

I'm going to post some student type 1 diabetes hacks in the forum soon to share some of the ways I managed to get my hba1c down again.

Thank you! Hannah x

Welcome back Hannah and well done on improving your hba1c etc 🙂 xx

Welcome back and well done on the hba1c that’s taken a lot of hard work

Welcome back @hannahrbuckley1!

I got my diabetes as a 21st birthday present too. That was at the end of my degree, but it did slightly mess with my final year!

Brilliant news that you have made peace with your diagnosis, and found a way through the maze to make such a significant improvement in your BG management. It’s never easy, and there are things we all miss, but at least diabetes is a condition where we DO have the option of finding a balance that suits each of us as individuals.

Your student hacks are great 🙂
