Hi All. Does anyone else have B12 deficiency caused by Metformin long term. I was put on course of B12 +Folic acid, this has now finished but symptoms remain. Apparently Metformin causes this problem. Any suggestions or help topics?

It is the absorption of B12 from food that is affected therefore B12 would need to be given by injection, normally every 3 months. Oral B12 would still not be absorbed.
It affects the area of the gut which produces intrinsic factor required for absorption, my other half had the same thing caused by being given esomeprazole. There are tests I believe to check for whether you are producing intrinsic factor.
