Hey all,
I discovered I was T1 after going into a coma outside the emergency doctor's surgery after a visit on New Year's day in 1998 - also after the previous doc I visited the week before - and her - told me I was fine.

Helped with diabetic research (as a guinea pig) ever since then and feel very proud of CGMs, as the 1st ones I trialled when we lived in HK were the size of a couple of blocks of butter held on with an elasticated corset. I now pay for a Dexcom 6, I do like it.

Oh and was the 1st woman in the world to give birth whilst testing an artificial pancreas/ automatic feedback system 10 years back.

My mum uses Diabetes UK a lot (she isn't diabetic but supports them) and does constant craft sales for them which is amazing.

Anyway, just hopping on to search madly as my beloved Accuchek Aviva just broke and I never got my head round the Darius a bought as a backup several years ago. I cant believe they were discontinued, I cried when I got mine, life changing, and it seems impossible to find easy bolus calculators... ho hum.

Thanks,
Cat

Hi.
I've been reading threads on here for ages, but got too many results that aren't about apps etc come up if I search for bolus, of course.
T1 since my early 20's in the 90's, insulin pens.

My 10 year old LOVED Accucheck Aviva Expert died an hour ago, I'm gutted. Brilliant, life changing thing, that was.

I knew they were discontinued and after a lot of research had bought a Darius about 5 years back, which neither myself or my DSN back then could get to work, so that was great, not.

I'm not that bothered about a glucose monitor, tbh, (unless there's another that also does the past & future bolus calculations like the Expert did), as I pay for a Dexcom 6 anyway so I'll just got a Boots one or whatever.

But I am a wee bit panicked about the bolus calculations. I'm a bit number dyslexic and loved the fact the Expert also tracked any active leftover insulin so you didn't stack injections, as well as calculating what your next planned bolus was based on your ratios (I have no idea what mine are but I'm trying to get hold of a DSN tomorrow - we moved last year so I don't know mine yet.

I've been googling apps etc again (I do look every year or so) but most seem to be USA based (which I trust even less in the current climate) and I'd heard the Uk MySugar 1 wasn't great.

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks,
Cat

Hi @Cat Fin

Welcome to the forum.

Sweet to hear your Expert has expired. Pretty much inevitable I guess after this many years. I had mine before I started on my first pump about 12 years ago!

Roche partnered with the popular app mySugr, so their bolus wizard functionality is now part of that.

I think the Freestyle Insulinx also used to offer a bolus wizard, but I don’t hear those mentioned much any more, so that may have been discontinued too.

I just spotted that you’d started 2 threads on the same topic, so I’ve merged them together to keep your replies together 🙂

MySugr was originally developed by Austrians. I’ve spoken to Frederick who was one of the founders on a couple of video calls in my blogging days. That was before Roche got involved.

Important to remember that the Expert used Roche’s approach to active insulin, which was to deduct any insulin associated against meal carbs. The Expert only tracked active *correction* insulin 🙂

Thanks so much!

Our expert died recently so my sympathies. It’s worth calling them up as sometimes they can talk you through resetting it somehow. It didn’t work when we tried it but it apparently works for some.

Aw thankyou, I did look at their site for help and saw they try. But sadly 1 of the rubber buttons popped off and ripped off the connection under it so it's not a reset thing. Hubby had a go at putting it all back in with tweezers but it's not looks salvageable ...

Ah such a shame. They really are the best meters.
